I have a bachelor's degree in primary education, from the University of New England and an Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts, where I specialised in oil painting and printmaking. After graduation, I spent several years working as a freelance artist before opening my own studio in 2022. Currently, I am undertaking a Bachelor of Arts via the University of New England, and a Graduate Diploma of Creative Arts and Health through the University of Tasmania. I began classroom teaching in 2020 as covid hit and after a few years decided life was too short to tolerate a toxic workplace and Teaching and Learning Crew was born. Jen and I turned our passions into our job, and I got to teach art everyday again.
The inspiration behind my artwork comes from my experiences as a fire fighter. Over the last 12 years I have explored most of New South Wales and some of South Australia assisting locals during heavy fire related events. As time progressed my love of painting landscapes evolved to add the flames that creates so much destruction. I grew up painting romanticised Australian bush images, highlighting the beauty of the trees, dynamic colours of the landscapes and wonderous waterfall and rock formations.
My artwork is inspired by my experiences and travels throughout Australia and Europe. Artists I admire include Arthur Boyd, Brett Whitley and Claude Monet. I am inspired by the colours of the Australian landscape and the diversity of the flora and fauna. My work aims to highlight the beauty of the country and the impact fire brings to it and the community.
